Environmental Management Agency (“EMA”) is driving and enforcing a campaign against littering by motorists and their passengers. Both private and public transport operators are required to have litter bins Iin their vehicles. These measures against littering by motorists and passengers of motor vehicles will help to reduce road accidents and the resulting loss of life. The following fines are payable:-
- A fine of US$15 is payable if there is no litterbin in the motor vehicle.
- Passengers must pay a fine of $15 if they are caught throwing litter through the windows of motor vehicles, including public transport motor vehicles.
- The driver of the motor vehicle in which the passenger has thrown litter through the window or otherwise, must also pay a fine of $15.
What you must do as a passenger or member of the public:-
- Ask the conductor or driver of the motor vehicle where to find a litter bin.
- Report cases of non-compliance to EMA and the police.
